A congenital Heart defect (CHD) by definition is something you are born with that is not considered part of a normal heart. These can be life threatening which require an immediate intervention to something that may resolve spontaneously over time. There are many different CHD’s and some are identified in utero during routine prenatal appointments while others are found in the newborn nursery or even by a pediatrician later in life. As a pediatric cardiologist, my job is to help identify any new defects suspected by your pediatrician or help treat those things identified before or shortly after birth.
